Bivalvia is a species that has two shells considered valves that are held together by a muscles. The muscles is a fold in the body wall also know as the mantle. The shell is calcareous as yearly it grows rings that determine the age of a shell. Innumerable clams filter food from the water. They use siphons to vacuum up food from the mud. A few common Bivalvia are: 1.White Clams/Meretrix lyrata The White Clam is also known as Asian Hard Clam it has a white shell and a black streak covering one of the side edges. The White Clam is around two inches wide and weights one point two ounces. The can be founded in the tropical waters as is distributed more toward Asia.
2. Pacific Oysters The Pacific Oyster can grow up to ten inches long as as the shells are big and rough. They had generally originated from Japan in the year nineteen twelve but are spread out to all over the world. 3. Asian Green Mussel/ Perna viridis The Asian Green Mussels can grow up to 4 inches long. It is better known the area of Florida, the Caribbeans and South America.When it grows in the wild the green mussels can be toxic depending on what they feed on.
